Peaceful Coalition Girls Volunteer for Prom Closet
Peaceful Coalition girls helped unload and begin organizing a Free Prom Closet at BMC Durfee High School. Local establishments and individuals have donated beautiful gowns to be available for any students who are in need of a dress for prom. We had some fun with those dresses too!
Peaceful Coalition Members Participate in Leadership Training
Many Peaceful Coalition members were selected as part of the B.M.C. Durfee High School Leadership Team. Today this team participated in a training to recognize the importance of community service, the power of one person, and how it related to violence prevention in our lives and community.
National Youth Violence Prevention Week Activities!
Peaceful Coalition was excited to again take part in National Youth Violence Prevention Week! We were part of presenting and leading peaceful activities at our local elementary school about nonviolence, creating bulletin and morning announcements about youth violence statistics and ways we can each be more peaceful this week, and creating a Pledge for Peace that students and staff were able to take all week while adding their name to our Peace Wall. It was a great week that allowed us to further educate many about the importance of peace in our homes, schools, and community!
Peaceful Coalition Presents to Elementary School Children
Peaceful Coalition members had a great time providing peace activities at Spencer Borden Elementary School for their Kindergarten and First Grade classrooms. We explained the purpose of Peaceful Coalition to the children, created a peace circle in each classroom, sang songs about love and friendship, read books about peace and loving yourself, and lead an art activity about our peaceful and safe places we have in our lives. The children were so much fun to work with, and we were so happy to share our message of nonviolence with them!
Peaceful Coalition Members Prepare for Elementary School Presentation
Peaceful Coalition members met after school today in our first of 3 meetings to prepare for an anti-violence and bullying interactive session we will be having with grades K and 1 at the local elementary school. Members are excited to work with the young children to help them start recognizing small acts of violence that happen even at their age, while encouraging peaceful actions to be a part of their everyday lives.
Peaceful Coalition Given Presentation to Encourage Positive Choices
Peaceful Coalition members were part of a select audience at B.M.C. Durfee High School that heard from 4 inmates from the Dartmouth House of Corrections. Stories about negative choices and consequences were heard by all as a means to lead students down a positive path in school and beyond. It was a powerful presentation, and we are very fortunate to have been given the opportunity to hear these speakers.
Book Drive Helps Children in Our City!
Our hundreds of books collected at our book drive was a huge success! Books are now being distributed to children in our local elementary schools, and we are so excited we were able to be part of encouraging children to read! Thank you to all who helped make our program a great success!!
